Backstory of "A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning"
This poem was a love letter written to John Donne’s wife while he was on a long trip to Germany and France on government business. His wife was back in England, so he created this poem to comfort her, reassuring her they where still together in spirit. It was not discovered until after his death.*
